To say the last week for our town has been a shock is an understatement. Whether we are cleaning out our basements from it flooding, keeping our kids occupied for the week (explaining to them why they are home), watching as traffic piles up on Hwy 52 and 66 hoping it won’t take 2 hours this time (frustrated but humbled knowing it’s a small inconvenience), helping our neighbors clean up, or donating money to the flood relief, we are all helping in one way or another. Our community and surrounding communities have made me extremely proud to live here. I am amazed at the coordination of clean up, evacuations, donations, etc… that has happened and continues to happen.
With this being said, our students are returning to school tomorrow and will bring home more items reminding them about our Jog-a-Thon on Sept. 27th. As we are hoping this is a big fundraiser for our school, the PTO would also like to contribute, on behalf of Prairie Ridge Elementary School, 10% of the money raised to the Salvation Army to help those impacted by the flood. The donation will be taken out before any prizes and/or expenses are subtracted from the total amount raised.
Starting on Monday we will begin to collect non-perishable foods to donate to the Food Bank. We will collect food until October 11th. Our school will also have our annual canned food drive in December, and I encourage you to look into sales, cut coupons and donate what you can to our drive. Donations start to fade as time progresses so let’s make this year the best ever and keep the food pantry stocked!
